About FruitLore
FruitLore is an independent reference site about the world's edible fruits — from the ones in every supermarket to rare species most people never get to try. For each fruit we gather the things worth knowing in one place: what it tastes like, its nutrition per 100 g, when and where it's in season, how to pick and store it, how to eat it, its culinary and traditional uses, and the stories and science behind it.
What we're trying to do
Good information about fruit is scattered across seed catalogues, academic papers, market lore, and half-remembered family knowledge. Our goal is to bring it together into clear, accurate, genuinely useful profiles — written in plain language, honest about what is and isn't well established, and covering the long tail of unusual fruits that bigger sites ignore.
Who it's for
Curious eaters, home cooks, gardeners, travellers deciding what to try at a foreign market, and anyone who has ever held an unfamiliar fruit and wondered what to do with it. FruitLore is a general-audience reference — a place to learn, not a shop and not a medical resource.
How it's made
FruitLore is a small, independent project. Profiles are researched against standard references — including USDA FoodData Central for nutrition — and written and edited by the FruitLore editors. Nutrition figures are given per 100 g of edible portion and are approximate; for rarer fruits with limited published data we say so plainly rather than inventing precision. We explain exactly how we research, source, and fact-check on our editorial standards page.
A note on health information
Some of what we publish touches on nutrition and health. We treat that as general information about a food, not medical advice, and we are deliberately cautious with health claims — we describe what the evidence actually supports, flag where it's thin or over-hyped, and never claim a fruit treats or cures anything. Every page that carries this kind of content shows a clear medical disclaimer. Please talk to a qualified healthcare professional about your own diet, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, managing a health condition, or taking medication.
